Concrete Services for Homeowners in the Main Line and Havertown area
Concrete takes a beating. Freeze-thaw cycles, water, deicing salt and everyday use cause steps to crack, sidewalks to heave and slabs to chip and flake over time. BJK Masonry & Restoration provides concrete services for homeowners in Havertown, Wynnewood, Ardmore and nearby communities, repairing and replacing the concrete surfaces around your home before small cracks turn into bigger problems.
Every concrete repair starts with understanding why the concrete failed. We look at the surface, the base underneath, drainage and how the area is used, then recommend whether it needs a targeted repair or a new pour. Because we are a masonry company first, our concrete work is planned to fit with the brick and stone steps, walls and walkways already on your property.
When the damage involves brick or stone as well, we can also handle masonry repair as part of the same project. Our concrete services cover the residential work homeowners need most: concrete steps, sidewalks, slabs, curbs, driveway aprons and garage floor repairs.

Concrete services generally fall into a few groups:
- Concrete repair: crack filling, patching and resurfacing.
- Replacement and installation: new pours for steps, sidewalks, slabs and driveways.
- Concrete leveling: lifting sunken slabs back into place.
- Specialty work: concrete pool deck repair and decorative finishes such as concrete polishing and concrete staining.
BJK's concrete services focus on repair and installation for residential steps, sidewalks, slabs, curbs, driveway aprons and garage floors.
The best repair depends on the type and depth of the damage:
- Narrow cracks can be cleaned and filled.
- Chipped or flaking surfaces are patched or resurfaced.
- Concrete that is badly broken, heaved or crumbling is usually cut out and replaced.
In every case, preparation matters most. Loose and damaged material has to be removed so the repair bonds to sound concrete. A patch placed over a weak surface or an unstable base will not last, which is why we find the cause before choosing the repair.
Yes, with the right preparation. The old surface must be cleaned of dirt, oil and loose or deteriorated concrete, then roughened so the new material has texture to grip. The existing concrete should also be saturated surface dry, meaning the pores are full of water but no water sits on top. Otherwise it pulls moisture from the new concrete and weakens the bond. A bonding agent is often used between the two layers.
It depends on the product and the repair:
- Vinyl patching compounds can be troweled as thin as a 1/16-inch feather edge, and deeper vertical repairs are built up in 1/4-inch layers.
- Heavy-duty patching mortars are rated for up to 2 inches per layer, with drying time between lifts.
Damage much deeper than that usually calls for removing and replacing the section with new concrete rather than patching.
Repair makes sense when the damage is limited to the surface or a few cracks and the concrete underneath is still sound. Replacement is usually the better choice when a slab is badly broken, heaved or sunken, or when the base below it has failed. We evaluate the concrete on-site and explain the options before any work begins.
